Pediatric Emergency Department

Opened in March 2014.It was funded by the Nash Health Care Foundation’s “It’s all for the kids” Capital Campaign which raised $2.8 million. This was the first capital campaign ever pursued by the Foundation.

We are only the eighth hospital out of 130 in our state with a dedicated pediatric emergency department. The idea was birthed in 2010 when the decision was made to move forward in building a state of the art new emergency department. Planning analysis revealed that over 13,000 children a year or 36 a day visited the Nash emergency department. That number has increased since the department opened last year. In the 52 year history of our health system our pediatric patients have never had a place of their own. They have entered an environment plagued by all of our societal ills that end up in the emergency department of a community hospital; drug abuse, alcohol abuse, violence, spouse and child abuse just to name a few. Now that the department is open, our children will walk into a totally new pediatric emergency department designed just for them. The lobby features colorful décor and artwork. The separate waiting area is bright and cheerful and includes toys and child-friendly furniture to make scary experiences more comforting for children and their families. Teddy bears add warmth to pediatric patient rooms and provide a souvenir for children to take home.
